Dear Governor Brown,

Two years ago today, the residents of the northern San Fernando Valley discovered what became the largest gas leak in US history in their own backyards.  Two years later we are faced with more questions than answers.  The precautionary principle militates towards the resumption of a moratorium on new gas injections and withdrawals until we have answered critical questions about ongoing health and safety risks.  More simply put: don’t start injecting until you finish inspecting.

SACRAMENTO – In response to recent attempts by the Trump Administration to bully NFL owners into firing athletes for speaking their minds while on the clock, as well as reports of potential threats to women courageously stepping forward in the workplace to share their personal experiences with sexual harassment and violence, California State Senator Henry Stern (D-Canoga Park) made the following announcement today:

(Sacramento) – Yesterday, Senate Bill 225, authored by Senator Henry Stern (D- Canoga Park) and Assembly Bill 260, authored by Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles), passed the California Legislature with overwhelming bipartisan support. The dual measures would update current trafficking hotline notices to include a text messaging component (SB 225) and expand the current list of required businesses to include hotels and motels (AB 260).

SACRAMENTO – State Senator Henry Stern teamed up with a coalition of bike share advocates and elected officials for a ride across the State Capitol yesterday afternoon in support of an initiative to spread bike share programs statewide. The bill, Senate Bill 702, is authored by Senator Stern and would expand the Capitol bike share program that allows state employees to rent a bicycle for free for trips during the day to other locations in the state.

SACRAMENTO – State Senator Henry Stern’s bill to increase voter registration opportunities for California’s foster youth is set to become state law after yesterday receiving Governor Brown’s signature. Senate Bill 332 earned unanimous support in both houses of the legislature and will ensure foster youth, an often marginalized group, receive voter registration services when transitioning to adulthood.

SACRAMENTO – State Senator Henry Stern’s SB 756, which will provide restitution for mental health services to young sexual abuse victims, has been signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown after receiving unanimous approval from members of both the State Assembly and Senate. SB 756 is the freshman Senator’s first measure sent to the Governor and signed into law.

SACRAMENTO – State Senator Henry Stern released the following statement after the California Legislature passed a package of bills to extend the state’s historic Cap-and-Trade program to 2030.
